About Marilyn Zecher

Marilyn Zecher is the instructor of two graduate level methods courses in Multisensory Math. She is a frequent speaker at conferences which focus on meeting the needs of unique learners such as students with language-based learning deficits like dyslexia and related disabilities, but also students with other language challenges such as second language learners and students with hearing impairments. She is a former public-school classroom and demonstration teacher who has spent more than two decades developing a multisensory approach aimed at meeting the needs of all learners in a variety of settings: general education and inclusion classes, small group and individual instruction as well as dedicated special education classrooms. Her strategies are used by both public and independent schools to help students “catch up to keep up.” Her goal is to develop math instructional strategies which aid visualization and internalization of math concepts to promote memory, independent reasoning and growth. She bases her work on recommendations from the Institute for Educational Science, findings from neuroscience, best practices in mathematics and traditional multisensory methods which are linked to evidence of efficacy. Her belief is that initially modeling math concepts with manipulative objects paired with concise mathematically accurate language provides a foundation for student success, engagement, confidence and joyful interaction with math content.
